Spade

Yep... I should leave coloring to the pros. Wish he did wear pink in the movie though.

Chompers

A closer look at the guppy's head. Like sharks, their teeth would protrude outwards when they pull their lips back.

Bub

30 mins (including correction)! As much as I'd like to draw Hugh Jackman's whoop-some buns streak across my blog, I decided to leave it to the professionals. Also, shoddy colouring proves why I can never be a good concept artist.

Kasturi

For those who don't know, 'kasturi' means lime.

After days (or weeks?) of putting it off, I've finally purchased the official license for Paint Tool Sai! Yay! Hopefully this will encourage me to utilize it more after being deprived of it.

Anyway, here is another character for The Fisherman's Son project. Her design is based on traditional Malay, and she is quite adept with the art of Silat Gayung. Naturally disciplined, she is also terribly a no-nonsense humourless warrior. However, she still enjoys feminine pleasures like painting her fingertips with henna and she absolutely enjoys long baths.

I don't care if it's made for guys

I was supposed to post this up earlier last week, but I had other duties to attend to. Anyway, some sweet purchase off ebay: a limited edition Boba Fett Hoodie tailored by Marc Ecko (until someone will try to pirate this in Petaling Street, but it can never be as swell as the original!)

Kitty face not included.

Loving the helmet details <3

There is also a Storm Trooper hoodie to go with this, but I'm not that fond of white fabrics since I can't really keep my sleeves clean at all times. My husband, who is an absolute Star Wars fan, was going bonkers (I bought it for myself). But hey, I did offer to get him the white Princess Leia outfit.

Sketchcrawl Submissions

Here are the sketches I did last Saturday (ballpoint pen on recycled paper):

Many thanks to Sandra for organizing the Kuala Lumpur Sketch Crawl event, which was held on the 11th of April 2009 in KLCC Aquaria. Other submissions can be found here.

Monday Blues

Currently in my office, I am miserably feeling hot (the AC has yet to kick in), sleepy, and cranky. I am also missing my bed and pillows. And then, I miss Sunday too. I unprogressively plowed through my weekends like I change clothes, so no amount of screams, begging or tears will make him come back ever again. Until the next Sunday, that is.

Bedtime Story, pg01

1st draft of the beginning.

Preview - Wild Orchid

A little something to fill in my sister's site :) Do go there for the full version.

Nenek Kebayan

My buddy Andri wanted to know how the witch would look like. I may not be using the idea of her turning the guppy temporarily into human (because I do not want people to think that I ripped the story completely off The Little Mermaid - I assure you I will not), but I will use this design somehow. Her outfit is based on traditional Javanese.

Oh Hay There

I got sneaked on twice by two different manta rays. Yesterday was the sketch crawl day, and this year we had it in KLCC Aquaria. We had lots of fun ogling at beautiful and strange alien creatures. My sketches can be found here.

Many thanks to Sandra for organizing the event!

Stumble

Simply playing with a "what if" - should the guppy and her human companion need to cross the town, they would need help from a witch who is in debt to the boy. The guppy would turn into human temporarily, and she will need to learn how to use those feet really quick. The clothes would be a gift from the witch, who takes a liking to the guppy (since she reminded her of her long dead daughter). Her outfit is based on traditional Javanese.

Old Mother

A quick rendition of an old female (or alpha female). These water folks revere their elderly, and alpha females are rarely ever challenged. Their lifespan is almost parallel to humans'; their vulnerable years will be from birth to 16 years, and they may live up to 150 years after that, provided if they don't get into fights with other schools or males, get eaten by predators like the great whites, or succumb to diseases/infections.

Their reproduction rate is moderate. They spend 15 years raising their current pups before becoming fertile again, unless their pup dies or gets killed off then they start reproducing immediately with consent from the alpha female. Gestation Period may last up to 14 months, and they give birth to live young. A school may have up to 200 individuals.

The Fisherman's Son Again

Quick sketch/render. Take five of the design for the fisherman's son. I am basing his design on old Malay/Javanese culture. Not final yet, but I think it's getting there.

Slam!

My colleague, Hanie, did not know I was coming out on her side of her door. The poor girl was scared half to death when I shrieked. Good news: no sound of crunching.

Young Fisherman's Son

A quick pre-final design for the boy. He would be 15 when the journey started, and about 18 when it ends.

Of Strawberries and Strings

Happy Birthday to gentleman extraordinaire, Andri, who is really 27 actually XD Sorry buddy... you are getting the Hefner treatment. Man... parents are definitely hating my site now.

Frangipani

Just a short break from The Fisherman's Son, and this took me less than 30 mins. My brother just came back from Bali. Thus, it inspired this (which explains the inaccuracy of her outfit and accessories design). Anatomy is a bit funny, and I still suck at colours.

Bubbles

You'd be startled too if you encounter a sea dragon :D Where there is a pup, a protective parent/school is sure to be nearby. A quick sketch/concept on The Fisherman's Son (I know his left leg is missing) :b It's not finalized yet. I think I will age them later.

The Big Blue

My groove was nowhere to be found tonight, so this is all I can come up with. A little detail on the Male dragon's face:
Yuck. Epic Fail with the colour blue.

Camouflage

One of the many looks and sizes of the water folks, and this one is based on the clown fish. Dedicated to all you pranksters out there on this day :)

Inked and painted in Paint Tool Sai, edited in Photoshop. Texture is from Ro-Stock.
